Background of Bhedarganj upazila

Bhedarganj upazila: The present age of the people of Bhedarganj upazila is about 300 years old. Bhedarganj Thana was established in 1924 with the famous educationist and influential figure, Syed Vedaruddin Shah, the zamindar of Bikrampur Pargana. Later on 14 September 1983, under the influence of time and administrative demands, it was developed from Bhedarganj thana to Upazila. Air Vice Marshal Sultan Mahmud inaugurated the Bhedarganj upazila.

Vedarganj upazila extends from 23.24 degree to 23.38 degree north latitude and 90.23 degrees 90.36 degrees east longitude in geographical consideration.

Bhedarganj upazila is situated on the west bank of the Meghna river on the south side of the beautiful scenic and descriptive Padma river on the east side of the Shariatpur district town. Damudya upazila on the south, shariatpur sadar on the west, Nariya upazila on the north, and the largest river of the Padma and the Meghna in the north east.

There are more than one hundred proverbs in the name of the name of this upazila. It is a mud fame. Veda means the mud. Once upon a time there was plenty of mud in this area, it was difficult to get rid of mud for mud. The people had to be trampled with a lot of humiliation. So the area was known as Vedarganj. According to many, there were many Vedas. There was always a fierce river in the river. So the name of the area is Bhedarganj.

But these are merely manifestations of the fact that they are mere proverbs. Originally named as Bhedarganj, after the name of Vedaruddin Shah.
